My beautiful boy has two kidneys that work AWESOME! We got a great report from the surgeon last week and it was so good to get if after waiting 4 months from Sam's initial surgery. He turned 21 months old yesterday and he gives us so much joy. Here are a few new pictures too. The buddy buddy

I am trying to get back to blogging...now yes I know I have promised this many times before but with Sam not needing anymore surgeries and school winding down for the year, I should have a bit more free time. I am thinking about making some superhero themed items so I checked out some fellow etsykids folks.

These super cute superheros from Pegged and I will for sure order one as soon as Sam is bigger. You get to pick which superhero you want.

PartyInk created these adorable personalized super hero sticker. They are afforable and would be great for a party or gift stickers.

When my son was little he would always lose his binkys so a binky holder like this would have been fantastic. Little Birds Boutique created this functional and cute binky holder that is all boy.

Happy 16 Months Bubba

My bubba came into this world 16 months ago today. He is a HUGE blessing and I feel like we are so lucky to have him in all our lives. Here are a few boastful mom things that I love about him

1. the good morning hugs I get when I am able to get him out of bed.

2. his giggles they crack me up

3. how clever he is. I see so much of my hubby and myself in him.

4. when he smiles I see glimpses of myself and my dad in him.

5. how my grandma shortly before passing called him lazy because he wasn't walking and less than 24 hours after she passed he started walking all of the time.

6. how he makes me feel awesome everyday and brings such joy to our lives.

Hi everyone,

It has been quite a long time since my last post. I haven't been doing as much crafting as I used to but I do as much as time allows. I am working on items for my most favorite show Atomic Holiday Bazaar. The show is December 11th-12th in Sarasota. Please come out and get some awesome gifts for the holidays. I always get some fabulous things. A lot of of my necklaces that some of you admire were bought at the past couple of Atomic shows.

Been A loooonngg Time

A LOT has happened since my last post, I got a full-time teaching job about a month ago, and we finally got a computer at home for the 1st time in like a year and a half.

Today will be a short post but I will be posting a lot more often and am going to be having a contest that will be announced soon.

I wanted to show you a treasury I was included in. These sushi napkins were made from Regina's adorable patterns she made for my etsy shop.

I am still doing my embroidery just at a much slower pace. I am working on an idea to have a show at my school one weekend but I will definately be at Atomic Holiday Bazaar this December. I can't wait. Adrien is awesome! I have gotten tons of compliments on necklaces at work that I picked up at last year's show...

I became acutely aware not everyone has a potty mouth like I do. Here are some of my newer works ( and cleaner versions) for all to look at.

Some lovely shop owner on etsy included my sushi napkins in her treasury. In all my years I have never been able to snag a treasury on etsy. Any hints?

One of the blog carnivals for this month was where, when or who did you learn your handmade craft from?

Hmm I started to do embroidery about 4 years ago when my husband became sick with what we thought was his appendix, and then became a mystery ailment and wound up being his appendix landed him so hospital time. I was worried about him and couldn't focus on my school work or reading so I sent away for the Sublime Stitching Kit and taught myself how to embroider. I totally sucked at the beginning but now it has been 4 years and I can't believe it. How time flies.

I just saw this shop Mi Cielo Mi Cielo and fell in love. There are some of the cutest things ever here. This is a fabulous site for any Star Wars Fans. I love all the custom shirts and bodysuits.

How great would this be for any little boy wtaching the A-Team with his daddy. I pity the fool...
Ninja's are so cool. I love this little bodysuit. I think Sam is too big for it but maybe a toddler shirt.

Blog Carnival- My Grandma

My Grandma Mildred passed away when I was 15 and she was a wonderful woman. She came down ith Alzheimers when I was 6 so I only have a few fond memories of her. She lived my a Syms in south Florida and a Toys R Us. She would go with me to Toys R Us and buy me colorformas and play with me for hours on the sliding glass door in her apartment. She was always super kind to everyone. She took care of my Grandfather until he passed away when I was 5 and then I think she didn't know what else to do. She was so focused on taking care of him , she got kind of lost after he died. I think she would have thought Etsy was fabulous, I am not sure if she was super crafty but she was a terrible cook. My dad said she would make bad mashed potatos..

This little water bottle sleeve is great to keep all of the condensation off your desk, clothes etc. I live in Florida and our bottles always sweat.

I am notorious for burning my hands in the oven. What a HUGE oven mitt. I think my hands would be safe here. That looks like quite a big pan.

Our task for this blog carnival was to write about a great summer trip/vacation. One of the best summers I ever spent was in 2002 when I moved to attend the Academy of Art in San Francisco. I had just graduated with my Master's degree and won a fellowship to attend AA for the summer. I was so excited to finally do something creative. I signed up for a photo storyboarding class and a production class.

The day I arrived in SF it was hot as hell. My friend, Alex came to pick me up and his truck has no a/c. I had sent a lot of my things ahead of time to SF for my place and Alex was kind enough to accept them at his work and schlep me to my place. The next day I work up and I swear it was like 40 degrees, totally freezing.

I met so many amazing people that summer. I was around all of these incredible artists that just fed my soul. I was taking pictures again on a daily basis, doing things without a care, being reckless and loving it. My classes didn't really count for anything but I went everyday and made 2 A's and they meant more to me than any other A I had ever made.

I was very sad to leave SF. It was a great summer full of fantastic culture, art, people, food and drinks. I think it was the summer I truly grew up. It shaped the rest of my journey to allow me to move on and make some of the best decisions I have ever made.

I was just going through some etsykids shops for the thread and I came upon the most adorable shop called Me and Matilda. The have all sorts of stuff for fancy ( or not so fancy occasions) for little girls and boys ( and adults too)..

My son looks really good in blue. I am not sure where he would need a tie at 7 1/2 months old right now but I adore this.
The red bird and blue tie make such a nice looking piece.

I love the vintage feel of this tie. I may have to get one for the hubby and the son. The colors are great and it just looks like fun and well most ties don't look like fun!

Weekend Away

I spent a wonderful weekend away with my parents, hubby and almost 7 1/2 month old son. We went down to south florida and here are some items that would have been helpful from some etsykids members for my son...

It got very cold some nights when we went to eat this jacket would have kept Sam warm and super cool at the same time!
Oh I lost three bibs on the trip. I really do not think you can ever have enough bibs.

No one can ever have enough binky clips for a long trip in a car. Sam likes to pull his binky out all of the time, this sturdy clip wouldn't allow that to happen.

Now I know for next time what we need for our road trip..

I am a memebr of Etsykids and totally have slacked in my blogging responsibilities so I am making a HUGE effort to devote time to all the etsy teams that have been so kind not to kick me out.

I would like to introduce you to Plum Tree Studio. They make their wonderful creations in Georgia. I liked the bib I am going to post so much I bought it for my son!

This pirate ship made me smile. I have a hard time finding cute things for Sam now that he is getting bigger. The clothes department in most stores is like 1/6 boys and the rest girls.
I loved the fabric on this bib so much I had to snatch it up! I know Sam is going to love this.
This shirt reminded me of one I saw in the Boden catalog.

Farmers Market This Weekend March 28th

It has been super crazy at my house. I was supposed to do a show last week and Sam came down with a fever so I had to cancel at the last minute. The girl running the show is super sweet and I hope I get to work with her again soon.

I will be at the Tarpon Springs Farmer's Market this Sunday, March 28th from 10 am-3pm. It will be located ( this week only) 2 blocks south of Tarpon Avenue. There are tons of "green" vendors and loads of great food. Hope to see you there.

Handy Manny Diaper Done!

My baby is going to be six months old on St. Patrick Day and I can't believe it! I finally finished his Handy Manny Diaper and he loves it. It is so funny to watch him watch the show. He dances when the theme song comes on, when the tools are going to fix somthing and when they fix it. It is the best. I actually videotaped him the other day dancing to it.

I am working on a couple of swaps. I participated in the Etsy baby shower and Sandra of Joey and Aleetha made my son some great things a winter themed onesie and a lovey. I am making her sone a dinosaur shirt and Sam is getting saome more loveys.

This was Sam wearing his oneise and playing with his lovey. he son picked out the fabric and was so sweet about Sam.

I am doing anouther swap with Rita for adorable pea pods and a ninja bean for Sam. I am going to make her a Craft Ninja Bag for her stuff.

I can't believe February is almost over it is crazy! I am back at work after being sick for over a week. I got some crazy funk that left me so whipped. All I have left from the sickness is a nasty cough...
I have been working on a few projects...

I think this diaper is my favorite. I had never really heard of Handy Manny until prior to Sam's birth but we all love it now. My whole family sings the songs and Dan loves the fact that Manny is Fez from That 70's show.

End of The Month!

Whew! I can't believe it is the end of January. I have finally started to do a bit of crafting at nights again. Here are two of the newer items I made, of course for Sam, this one bib below was in honor of him getting to eat baby food. He needs bibs more than ever now between the drooling and the food.

The pattern is from the bib kit from Sublime Stitching. The pants he is wearing are from the Circus patterns at my etsy store. These patterns were created by the wonderful Regina. She also created the monkey below on Sam's onesie for his announcements and I thought he was too cute to pass up.

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and has had a fabulous start to the new year. I am hoping to make up some of the slacking I have been doing in the blogging department this year. It doesn't help that we still do not have a computer at home.

Motherhood keeps me quite busy. Sam is such a sweet boy but between my work schedule, and Dan's we still wind up on Sam's schedule. I am trying to do some embroidery at night. I had an etsy order I am working on and I finished this Tara Mcpherson diaper for Sam. You can get the patterns at Sublime Stitching.

I had an awesome time at Atomic. I met some really cool girls Billie, Brenda, Carey, and Amanda.

I got to hang out with some girls I met last year like Robin , Andrea, and Sara Leigh. I did a swap with Billie for a great necklace with cherries on it. I need to take pictures because Dan got me a couple necklaces for the holidays.

I will post some more pics of Atomic. For now you can check them out on my flickr. Here is one pic from my booth that Dan took from his phone. I guess you can't save them from flickr to your computer anymore so i have to bring in the camera.

We sold a lot of my newer items and Thank goodness Dan came with me to help me schlep and set everything up. He did a great job too!

I am still tired, more tired than I expected but have laid off the pain pills and am just taking advil. I went to have my incsions checked the other day and I go back in two weeks to get checked out. Sam has his Dr. appt. next tuesday. I am looking forward to seeing how much he has grown.
Dan's friend from work took some gorgeous pictures of Sam the other afternoon. I can't wait to see how they turned out.
Meanwhile thank goodness I have a strong support system, I can't drive so my mom or Dan takes me around. Everyone helps out with the baby which is nice for me. Dan has been the biggest trooper for the past 2 weeks. He sat with me when they put my epidural in, was in during the C-section, held my hand and helped the nurse when she removed my staples, helped me pump and cleans my incisions. I didn't think it was possible to love him more than I did before but I do.

I will be more on the blogging craft track soon I promise. A little man has taken over my life so I have been a bit preoccupied.

This is a picture of Sam. He finally arrived via c-section last Thursday at 5:58 pm. He will be a week old tonight. He is such a sweet baby and we are so lucky that he is so good because I am functioning at about 50%. Dan and my folks have been a HUGE help. More info to come soon!

Been a long time....

Well I am still pregnant, not sure for how much longer. I have an appointment with the OB tomorrow to see what is going to happen. Sam feels HUGE but as of my last ultrasound at 33 weeks he measured over 6 pounds. I am 36 weeks now and the OB originally said if I could make it to the week of the 7th of September it would be the best case scenario. I go for stress tests 2x a week and so far so good. Dan and I have been living at my folks for the past 6 or 7 weeks and that has been interesting. We are grateful that we have them here and close but we miss our house and I have a ton of stuff to do before Sam gets here...Thanks for all the good wishes I promise to make up all of the blogging I have missed for all my groups I belong to...

I try not to get too personal on this blog but we have hit a few snags in the road with this pregnancy. Sam and I are fine, he will be coming along a bit earlier than planned. He originally was due the 29th of September but could be here any time from 3 weeks from now until the latest September 7th. I have beem a bit preoccupied so other things (like this blog) have taken a back seat. I will keep you posted!

This is what I was working on last week to sooth my nerves. I tired doing that but as soon as I put the sequins into play all hell broke loose. What a HUGE pain in the a$$. It came out awesome and I can't wait to wear it again. It did look a bit on a big preggo belly but who cares right? I am exercising to try and calm down a bit and got the ok for some yoga so let's hope for smooth sailing this week.

I met Adrien a couple years ago at a show I was doing in St. Pete. She runs this fabulous show called Atomic Holiday Bazaar, which I was lucky enough to be a part of last year. We have become friends over the years and I asked her these questions recently based on my interview with kittykill.

1. How did you get into embroidery and how long have you been doing it?
My aunt is an amazing embroidery artist and gave me my first needle and floss kit which was a chipmunk when I was about 8. I didn't get serious about learning difficult stitches until my early 20s prior to that, I was just sewing things my way which made for some really cool pieces but beading that wouldn't hold because I wasn't using the correct thread, etc. It's good to really do it right the first time, duh!

2. Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I'm sunny to partly cloudy.

3. Tell me about your indie business
Tuff Betty Bags began in '99 in L.A., I don't produce as much as I had in the past due to my other indie biz stuff, Vintage Stew on Etsy, Atomic Holiday Bazaar my crazy craft show in December, Raging Retro, stylized retro photography (I don't take the pics) so I'm pretty busy year round with my hands in a bit of everything.

4. Any advice for the masses
Trademark your business name...very important. The potential to lose your rights to your business name after you have established a good following is a true reality that can bite you in the behind. You can easily trademark your biz name on line and it is worth every penny to do so.

This is a little interview I conducted with my good friend Kittykill. I met her on Craftster oh about 2 1/2 - 3 years ago. She is the moderator for needlework and I have learned so much from her. I am also lucky enough to have a few pieces made by her and her craftsmanship and attention to detail is not to be believed. We became fast friends and although we have never met in person I feel like I have known her my entire lifetime! I am so excited to have you all meet her!

1. How did you get into embroidery and how long have you been doing it?

I saw an ad for Sublime Stitching in Bust magazine and decided that I wanted to try it. I bought some patterns and began stitching. I had done some needlepoint and crosstitch up till then but really fell in love with embroidery. It was like I found a home,something I could do well and have an excuse to watch movies while doing it.I also discovered Craftster and my life has never been the same. I've met so many amazing talented people. I've been embroidering for about 5-6 years.

2. Tell me a little bit about yourself.....

I just turned 39, live in Portland Oregon with my husband Mark and our two Jack Russells Lola and Jujube. When I'm not stitching. I work for a women's domestic violence/sexual assault crisis line and help moderate Craftster.org. I love anything vintage from 1890-1950's, scary movies, kitschy stuff. We have a Tiki bar in our house and my hubby can make a mean drink. I treat my dogs like chilren and I'm sure it embarrasses my husband to death. I'm also a contributing writer on FeelingStitchy.com and I just started the Scrappy Dog Society. I love embroidering vintage patterns, it makes me smile to think 40 to 50 years from now my work will inspire someone when they see it at an estate sale or a thrift store. I love the way embroidery tells the history of our cultures. You can see the world evolving (or de-evolving) through stitches.

3. Tell me about your indie business

I have a shop on Etsy.com. 3 Jack Design. I sell jewelry, embroidery and vintage clothing/housewares. I also have a joint venture with an awesome friend selling patterns. We are still trying to come up with a name but the patterns seem to be doing quite well.

4. Any advice for the masses?

Don't listen to negative criticism! Do what you want to do and you will be happy. I don't embroider the conventional way but it always turns out the way I want it to. Also, practice, practice, practice. My first pieces were a little shaky but I kept up with it and really like the work I turn out now. Also, BE NICE TO PEOPLE! You can certainly be sassy but the head you step on, on your way to the top, is the ass you will have to kiss on the way back down to the bottom. Meet people in your community, encourage others to share their talent and their voices.

5. What is your website/blog?

Busy Weekend.

Whew! I got caught up in embroidery this weekend. It's funny cause I only started on Saturday but then Dan went fishing so I was home and made a ton of things.

First I knew I had to get Regina's long awaited tote bag done. I have slacked way too long and I wanted to get completed and all of her goodies together to send out this week.

Kinda of weird shadow came out when I looked at this.

Regina sent me over some line art of the new sushi line of patterns she made for sale and I made a set of napkins and a onesie for Sam.

These are 8 x8 cotton napkins from CB2, a division of Crate and Barrel.

This little onesie was on sale for $3.00 and I loved the color and thought the new patterns would look super cute on it!

Then the final thing I completed is from a prop used in Dazed and Confused. After my Bake Cake towel I made last week I wanted to make a more adult version with the F word involved. Dan and I loved the FAH-Q on Ben Affleck's paddle in Dazed and Confused so I copied it and made framed art.

I have a ton more things I need to do still. I need to finish up an order, and make a apron for 4th of July..

Ok so technically we have never met but I have been working with Regina for quite a while. She is a very talented graphic artist/designer. Regina also helped out with my day job by creating some promotional pamphlets we needed a HUGE redesign on. My friendship with Regina started out where I made a towel from an illustration she had done to represent her ( chicken) and her boyfriend (cow cow.) Then I asked Regina if she'd like to draw pdf's for patterns for my etsy shop ( which we were going to open a new one) and she has made some of the cutest patterns for the shop over the past couple months. The ones coming out next week are super duper cute! I wanted to write a little feature on her etsy shop Notebooks Etc.

Blog Carnival Topic- B-day

Hmm my b-day is at the end of August and this year is a big b-day which I do not care to mention..lol I am thinking that we may go out to dinner earlier for my b-day because I will be about 36 weeks pregnant and if my trip to Tampa yesterday taught me anything, eating and getting in a car are still not such a good idea...

I have bought gifts before for myself and my mom has given me money ( like clothes) and for the hubby. I think I am a pretty easy person to buy for, plus I have a wist and an amazon list to help my baffled family. I like music and books so there is always something I don't have. I have tried to stop buying books cause they are so darn expensive.

I think the best gift I ever received ( and it may not have been a b-day gift) is I always bug my husband to tell me how he fell in love with me. One year he bought a message in a bottle, wrote the story of how he fell in love with me and had it assembled in the beautiful kit that he gave to me. It made me cry like a b-day then and still tear up now. It was in a gorgeous glass bottle and nestled in this little treasure chest.

For this b-day there are about 5 concerts I'd like to see but I will wait until these bands come back here again. I think all of the bands have been here before and I have seen them all. I did go 4 years ago to see the Killers with Dan for my b-day and it was a fabulous show.

For this b-day, I think I would like to sleep in, maybe a massage and a nap!

This weekend

Ok so first off the gazpacho was freakin' amazing! I ate way too much of it. I left it at the people's house I made it for and then made a whole new batch on Saturday...YUM!

I have been working on a tote for Regina for a while and I still have not finished it, well cause I am a slacker. I will finish it this week and post a pic of it so I can send it on it's way to her.

I did finish a set of pillowcases. I saw a similar set on a website for sale that were made in china and were machine embroidered for A LOT of money so I figured I would whip up a set and have them in my store. I figured these would be a great baby shower or new parent gift for a couple that has a sense of humor. Each pillowcase had On Duty on one side and when you flip the pillow over it says Off Duty.

I have been working on this towel for a while. It will eventually say "Bake Cake" in the knuckles but for the time being it is a very slow WIP. It is from my friend SewSew-A-Gogo on flickr. She makes some of the cutest stuff.

Please don't mind the scattered blue my water soluble pen is not coming out so easy on here.

Artist Friend: Wild Olive

I am sure many of you know Mollie of Wild Olive on flickr and on etsy. She makes some of the cutest patterns ever. I have been buying them for a bit now and she recently asked if she could use a couple pictures of her patterns that I embroidered for her etsy site and I was like sure!

Since I have started to use a light table I think my embroidery has gotten so much better because I am able to draw much thinner lines and then water makes them disappear. My sulky pens got way to fat and the lines get too thick and then I need more floss to cover them.

The patterns on this towel are from her Bar-B Cute Set. This is one of her newer sets to be released in her shop. I made them on a towel for a 4th of July Party we are going to. Since we have 2 places to be I may make an apron for the other party hostess.

Gazpacho..MMMM My Favorite

Ok so this is one of my all time favorite recipes especially for the summer since it is a cold soup. Since I have been pregnant I have been craving gazpacho, unfortunately from weeks 6 until 21 weeks I suffered such bad morning sickness ( every afternoon and evening) that tomato's were not my friend at all, I really wanted to eat pizza, spaghetti and gazpacho. I think I am truly craving salt but I have begged my mom to make gazpacho and we all knew what would happen if I ate it.

I was telling Dan on the way to work today it is such a fresh smelling soup. I still have morning sickness but we are going to my parent's friends house for dinner and I made it last night. I am 24 weeks on Sunday so I figured it would be safe to try it. I ate some after I made it and felt the heartburn kick in immediately. I tasted it this morning and it was sooooooo good. I could eat the entire bowl (it's HUGE). I am taking Zantac for my heartburn ( turns out my doc didn't like me taking 10 Tums a day) and I am going to take another before dinner so I can eat it later.

Here is the recipe:

Gazpacho Recipe
This is my favorite soup. Please add/delete ingredients to your liking.
5 ripe tomatoes
1 bell pepper ( I use yellow or red because they are sweeter)
1 cucumber ( take the seeds out)
1 large onion ( maybe 2)
garlic ( fresh I usually put 3 cloves)
1/4 cup lemon juice
cumin-to your liking
cayenne-to your liking
salt -to your liking
olive oil ( recipe asks for two tablespoons, I don't use much)
1 can tomato juice

Put all ingredients in a food processor, chop to your liking. I can't fit it all in
one time so I do it 2 or three times, dump it all in a big bowl and add the
entire can of tomato juice, but you do not have to. Do not eat until the next
day and make sure it is very cold. Some people add sour cream (will kill the
bite if you were cayenne happy), and croutons.

Etsykid Shop Bam Designs

Our home PC has been dead since February and I have slacked big time on my duties for being a part of Etsykids. When I was on there today I cam across Bam Designs. This shop has monkeys all over the place. I call my husband Monk ( short for monkey) and with the baby coming in September we have started to buy all sorts of monkey related items. Sublime Stitching Baby Bib Embroidery Kit Review

I have been a fan of Sublime Stitching for over 3 years now. I must have oh 50 sets of patterns ( I have a lot of multiples) from SS, I have all of the books and 2 sets of the Stitch It Kit. I am in love with the metallic floss and tea towels too. Check out the site if you are unfamiliar with it. It is a great place to learn how to embroider and get inspired ideas from.

I bought the Baby Bib Embroidery Kit and it arrived last week. It was packaged like a little present! I wanted to get my hands on the new patterns and since we are expecting I figured a few more bibs couldn't hurt. I didn't get a chance to start stitching until this weekend so here goes it!

Inside the kit you will find:

1 instruction book ( with color pics)

2 terry cloth bibs ( one with yellow piping and one with green)

1 packet of iron patterns

5 skeins of floss ( one red, orange, light blue and I can't remember the other 2)

1 embroidery needle

The instructions are great like any SS product. The had different types of stitches listed as well as pictures so you can get an idea for color palettes for the bibs. The needle was sturdy. I am not sure where SS gets there needles from but I ordered a few with my last order and used the one in the kit and they are great. I used the kit needle in canvas and it didn't bend the slightest. I can't begin to tell you how many needles I have snapped in the past 3 years.

The patterns are adorable, perfect for boys or girls which was nice to have a variety. These patterns had paper in between them to prevent them bleeding on each other. it seemed as though the pattern paper was a bit thicker which is nice because it seemed to stay put when I ironed it. I chose the fruit pattern and the Yum pattern pictured below for my bibs. I didn't use the floss for the bibs because I wanted to save it for other projects I have planned but it works like a dream!

The bibs are the best terry cloth ones I have come across. I do not prefer to embroider on terry because often I pull the terry through the stitch and it looks terrible. I did do this on both of the bibs ( not as much as other terry bibs) and was able to fix some of them but not all. I am wondering if there is a trick to embroidering on terry I just do not know about. What I do have to say about the bibs is that they are super light and super thin, which is excellent for a hot climate like Texas or Florida. My dad felt them today and said they were the perfect thickness for our hot,humid summers!

Overall I will give this kit a 9.5 out of 10. Great Job Sublime Stitching!

Oh I loved Fraggle Rock growing up. I registered for the entire set for the baby. When I saw this doozer on the internet I just had to make him. I think I may make Red next for a friend of mine. Someone joked with me that the only thing I wanted the bay to watch was Jim Henson stuff...Yep she was right! I was on tour with Bear in The Big Blue House from 2003-2004 and by the end knew all of the songs by heart, it is also where I met Dan so there is a GIANT soft spot in my heart for Bear. Maybe I should do something with him???

New Shop Ideas

Well I spent most of the weekend crafting..1. because I had a couple custom orders and 2. cause I had ordered some awesome blank hankies from ebay that I wanted to embroider on and 3. cause I felt lazy, it's hard work growing a baby sometimes and I was just plum tuckered out.

The hankies are so much fun to stitch on. I recently went with the hubby to buy a light table ( there was a 50% off coupon for Joann's) and I freakin' love it. it makes my life 1000 times easier, plus I will admit I was getting a bit frustrated with the sulky thick lines I often had to cover on items. Don't get me wrong the sulky pens are awesome the first 2-4 times you use them but then the tips become wide and make small detail work impossible.

When I first started to embroider I used to print out pictures and pin them to my fabric, and stitch through the paper. HUGE, GINORMOUS pain in the ass. I moved up to sulky pens when I had trouble with transfer paper and didn't want to invest in a light table. 3 years later I have my new light table and the only issue I have had is that the hankies are so thin it is hard to write with the water soluble pen and a lot of the hankies shifted and I had slanty lines of words.

I know I should have ironed the hankies before taking pictures but ever since this happened last year whenever I do not have to use the iron the better for me. This also proves why my light table is so great I do not need to iron..

So for this summer, i think I am going to make more hankies and framed embroidery and branch out. I guess if anyone has any suggestions, I am always open for new ideas so just leave me a little note.I am still going to make kids stuff, well because it is cute and I know of a lot of people having little ones in the very near future.

We went yesterday to have my almost 20 week ultrsound and to see if I needed an amnio. Thank goodness I didn't need one. I was scared shi*tless! Anyway baby marriott was fine and dandy and a bit big for it's chronological age. The doctor was pleased and I have another just check in appointment at the end of June. So I know you are all wondering what sex the baby is....

Sam will be here in about 5 or so months. I am 20 weeks on Sunday. We are all super excited. Let the shopping and crafting begin!

I was lucky to have Andrea of Paper Sparrow in the Handmade Holiday Bazaar I ran last November with Elle Belle. I am a total stationery fiend and just checked out her shop today. I fell in love with the gnomus. I adore gnomes and this one is so darn cute!

This is a illustration mounted on a 8x6 gallery wrapped canvas. It would look so cute in my house.
These six cards are are a mix and match lot. You can tell her which ones you'd like and get 3 or one and 3 of another.

This little gnomus set is 6 notecards and envelopes and comes with little musroom stickers.

Since we are expecting our first child when I looked at this Two Zany Zebras on etsy I will admit it tugged on my heartstrings a bit! Since we do not know yet if we are having a girl or a boy I just looked at everything.

Hmm if I was to say what kind of perfect craft space I would like it would have to include a cutting counter top like the one at Joann's so I could cut my fabric straight. The room would be larger than what I have now 20x20 with built in shelves in the wall. I could put all of my fabric and blank stock on one wall, all of the embellishments, patterns, etc. on another wall. I would have an ironing board that came down from the wall practical but doesn't clutter the floor. Tons of table/counter top space. It would have a skylight in to use all of the free Florida sunlight we have most of the year. I think it would have an AWESOME stereo system since I have always wanted one and I love to listen to music. I think maybe it could have a really comfy sofa to craft from cause that's where I embroider from. Since this is a dream room a really nice sewing machine could be great it would be a bit more helpful it I knew how to sew..lol

I would be much better organized than I am currently. We had to clean out one room for the nursery ( this room housed my gift closet) and put all of the misc. crap from that room into the office/craft room we have plus a bed so Dan helped me organize it but I still can't fin everything. I think this is due to the placenta brain I am currently experiencing as well as I put so much stuff in the Rubbermaid boxes I can't lift them anymore.

Well I have been a total slacker lately, it is partially to blame that I am pregnant and still have Morning sickness not daily like I had for 9 weeks but let's just say when it hits it is still the FREAKIN' WORST. We still do not have a computer at home which is both a blessing and a curse. Dan came down with this nasty virus Saturday and we spent Easter Sunday at the Take Care clinic to make sure Dan didn't have strept.

Othe news there is BOGO sale going on at my etsy for all PDF patterns. Check it out. Regina and Stephanie are two FABULOUS artists that I have had the privelege to work with. I have made some items for the bambino from these patterns but since we do not know if it is a he or a she it's mostly white stuff so far.

Spring is Here!!!

Oh I am so happy it finally rained Saturday and yesterday. The weather has been really hard for a lot of people because of allergies but I am doing so much better than before. I like the spring and I hope it stays mild for a while because it seems like we onlyhave two seasons in Florida, hot and hotter!

We have HUGE water restrictions where I live so the rain has been so great for our lawn which has become a bit crispy. There was an article in the newspaper and it was offering money for people to rat out people who water when they aren't supposed to. Nice huh?

So here is to the warmer days and still cool and crisp nights.

Dan and I are having a baby in September. Here is the little one who would not cooperate well at the Dr. the other day. I know I have been MIA for a bit the computer at home is dead and we haven't replaced it and I spent the majority of the past 7 weeks with my head in the toilet bowl. I am finally starting to feel better and more like a human again. We are very excited! I won't lie I am a bit nervous but I am hoping we get back into a routine for the next 6 months and then the bambino arrives and the fun begins. We are fortunate that my family is close and can help and that we have a group of great friends too. Dan's family is quite far away and hope they can make it over here someday in the future.

We are going to register soon. I am pretty much the only person who wants to know what the sex of the baby is but I figured I deserve it right?

I apologize for being quite tardy this month. My computer is dead for good at home and I can't access my etsyblogger account from work just on my folks computer.

The featured etsyblogger this month is Donna Pool. I love all of her funky little buttons available in her shop. When I was in high school my jansport was covered with buttons. When I worked at various restaurant my lanyard was covered, when I was on tour my badge had buttons all over them. I guess I am a button fan. I feel nostalgic when I look at my buttons because I remember going to a specific concert or picking them up in a quirky shop, or who gave them to me.

Quick Tute for Patterns

This is a quick tute for making patterns ( from about any picture)for embroidery on fabric ( this is the way that I do it. There are a ton of different ways, when I have some extra cash I will by a light table).

1. Find a picture on your computer of buy patterns here or here or here or download a picture from the Internet ( coloring pages make cheap and cute patterns)

2. Search websites for free cool fonts so that you can do words or phrases.

3. When ready to print check and see if the patterns have a reverse image page if not you can select it on most printer look for the mirror image button under preferences. This is most important for your wording because you iron on the image to the fabric and if it isn't reversed it will be backwards.

4. Once the image is printed I heat up my iron ( the hottest usually) place the item I am putting the pattern on on a piece of scrap fabric( so the patterns doesn't bleed on your ironing board) place the ink side of the pattern face down, and iron on the design. I always peek to make sure the design is printed. (when using delicate fabrics or fabrics you shouldn't iron on, I turn the iron down a bit and place parchment paper on top of the pattern because it is thin enough to let the heat through and protect the fabric at the same time.

5. The white sulky pen hasn't worked for me ever, it is goopy and makes a mess. For really fine lines or letters use a new sulky. The black ones work the best for me. The place I have gotten them the cheapest is here.

Funtastic Fruits Patterns for Sale

I have been such a slacker when it come to the blog lately. I guess that isn't so good for my new years resolution. I also haven't been putting a lot up for sale in my etsy shop. I have been working but behind the scenes mostly. I have had some personal things going on that have kind of taken up some of the extra time I had but then I got let go from my tutoring job so a little more time opened up.

The exciting thing is I have been working with two wonderful artists ( who I will introduce you all to soon) who are working on some embroidery patterns for me to sell as PDF's in a new etsy shop.

I just started last week a swap with people on Flickr so this is always a lot of fun plus I know some of the girls from other swaps and they are all super talented artists.

Here are some of the most recent items I have finished.

A new Maicen girl shirt for me. It has been a bit chilly here lately so she has gotten a lot of wear. I found this pattern for the Happy Creamer somewhere on Flickr and don't remember where. I had bought this adorable tablecloth at a vintage shop that was going out of business. I still might add some cute cups or something

This is from Sublime Stitching and the pattern is from Emily Martin of The Black Apple. I though it was a sheep and people said it was a hedgehog..oops.
I picked this hankie up at the same vintage store and thought the pattern was a little like the fleur de lis so I put a french looking hedgie there. I carry this around so people can see what I make.
Current WIP. Pattern from Aunt Martha's. My mom's friend likes wine so as a thank you to her I am making her a towel.
This pattern is free over at Jacque Davis' flickr I found her adorable FREE patterns last week and whipped up this patter with the cupackes and the one below..

Due to the CSPIA kinda of screwing up everyone's livelihoods I am having a sale on blank kids items in my etsy store. I need to go through and see what else I do have but the quality of all these items are fantastic. I love them amd will continue to use them until I can't. I figured it would be great for someone who has small kids now to get some good deals!

Really nice tight absorbant weave for the diapers. People use them as decorative burp cloths. I use some of them that I messed up on to clean my house..lol
A lady on etsy said her 18 month old fits in these mock drawstring yoga pants.

These fit around my husbands neck and have super strong velcro so kids can't pull them off.

My Goals For The Shop in 2009

I would love to figure out what I could do to get my shop to get more sales. I think for 2009 I need to focus on making my shop a better one. I am lucky because I do have a pretty good following outside of etsy. It makes me sad I never get to share the compliments I receive from my outside sales because they have purchased locally. I have some women that order from me all of the time. I think a lot of them are not super comfortable using the computer to purchase items so they go through me personally and not etsy. My mom gets between 4 and 6 items a month from me for gifts. She is my best advertisement. I feel that the economy has a lot of people spending less for everything, including discretionary items, and that hurts my sales too.

I am very worried about the CSPIA and I think that this in turn will effect my shop. I will go back to making gifts for friends and their children and take all of the items out of my shop which means I will have a much smaller inventory. I am going to focus on more unique items. I am working with a friend to open another etsy store to sell patterns which I am super stoked about. I have a couple friends that draw and I think they would translate into great, different patterns.

I am also looking at running more shows. Once again the CSPIA puts a bit of a damper on that because I do not want to get sued for having people that sell items that need to be tested and it limits the vendors I can have at a show. I am hoping some of the people from HHB will join me for the spring show I'd like to have...

On a side note these are some of the item I made this weekend.

I love this artist Macien. Here is a sample of her work. Her newest items incorporate color and they just pop and feel so alive. She is able to draw them so they embody people I know or people from different eras, like flappers. When I see these girls I can almost envision them as real ladies. She has been so nice to give me permission to use some of her ladies for pieces I wear to show off my embroidery.

I wish I lived closer so I could go to some of her gallery shows. I love how different her ladies look and how they remind me of people I know or people from different eras, like flappers. CPSIA LAW (100th Post)

So when I started "Sew It's For You" it was based on a suggestion from my mom and my friend Ana that I should sell my gifts I was making. I wanted to have handmade gifts for my friends when we went to their houses, plus there was a baby boom among friends so I wanted to make personalized gifts for them. Originally I needed something to take my mind off of my husband being hospitalized and I couldn't concentrate on reading and I needed to keep my hands busy. I bought the Stitch-It-Kit from Sublime Stitching and taught myself to embroider. I got involved on Craftster, met some really cool friends (Pam) and started my etsy shop.

Let me start off by saying I would never knowingly give or sell items that I thought had lead in them. When I first heard of this law I didn't think it applied to me because I didn't sell toys. I read that the items included in the CPSIA were all items that kids under 12 could come in contact with. I watched as the fear grew on Etsy and made a phone call to Cheryl Falvey who is the lead counsel for the CPSC. I called her because I felt that there was a ton of misinformation on Etsy and on some blogs and at least I would know the facts from someone that knew the law. I was suprised she answered the phone. She was well aware of the plight of my fellow etsians, I explained that I embellish products that are bought from big box manufacturers and wholesalers and I can't afford to test each skein of floss from DMC and all of my other items. She stated to me that the original law did have a small business exemption in it and Congress shot it down. Cheryl said that the CPSC hoped that what would happen is that the small biz would get the exemption and that in a couple of years all the products from big box retailers would have to be certified or they couldn't be sold, which means we couldn't buy them and all would be right in the world. She said they were working on some rulings that were released last week and that untreated cotton, wood an other natural products should be excluded (if the vote passes). I did see that this was up for a vote on January 5th.

This law is making life for small business owners a mess. Let's say I had a onesie that wasn't white, the onesie would have to be tested as well as the snaps ( which means I wouldn't be able to use the onesie after testing) as well as each individual skein of floss I use. Expensive and Nightmare city. I think the craft community really needs to be vocal about how we will have to close our businesses and in turn not be able to shop at Joann's, Michaels, Hobby Lobby because we will not have a business to but materials for and not have a need to shop there, which in turn will help to make this fragile economy a lot worse..

I hope it doesn't mean I have to stop making kids items for sale. If the ruling does pass I will still make the items for gifts which is how my whole thing started. I will have to concentrate on making more adult items and I could make some great new things. I know this law could mean the possible closing of a lot of my friends businesses and that sucks. I hope the Cheryl can work her magic and all that she stated to me on the phone will become a reality.

AHB Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend was AHB and we had a blast. We went over to Sarasota early. We had some errands to run before we left town so we were about 45 minutes from home when Dan asked me if I had everything and I said yes and then he asked if I had my embroidery and I said no. I had pt everything together differently since the last show because I organized that one and this time I was a vendor. I tried to be really organized for this show by packing the night before and tried to save time by dropping Dan off at work and picking him up so he wouldn't have to drive home ( which is north) to go south. The huge tub was at home in the workroom/office and he was super patient with me while I said the entire time how dumb I was. He didn't even get angry at me.

We then drove over and were running kind of late ( I am dumb remember). We first stopped at Laura's shop "Everything But the Girl" ( great band too btw) and chatted with Ragamufyn and 75 Rabbit for a bit and got a few goodies and made our way to the pre-party at the Sarasota Olive Company which we had the best sandwiches ever! The had little dense almost challah like rolls with the best hummus ever! We chatted a bit with Kelli, Kyle Stacey and Doug. We actually we the last people left.

We got up after a crappy night sleep at the really nice La Quinta with a really loud wedding party from NY that camped out next to our room.

The show was a blast Adrien did a fab job along with all of the people who helped her. I was literally working until the show and even some during. I did finish my tiki towel.

See what I am talking about, it looks like dessert but it really is a gingerbread whipped sugar scrub for all those rough parts like elbows and feet.

Hole, Sick, Vacation

I have been out of commission for a bit.. First I fell in a hole ( which was really a trench) then Dan and I came down with the flu and then we went on vacation for my dad's 60th b-day.
I am trying to get ready for a big show this weekend, send out x-mas cards and fill some custom orders. There is never enough time to get done what I need to do..

Our ship docked in Grand Turk. It is so beautiful. They were hit really hard when Hurricane Ike came through and rebuilt the part of the island where the dock is in less than a month. We found loads of shingles in the water. It was the clearest water I had ever seen. We were so close to the boat I could have swam there.

We helped to contribute to the economy by Dan buying loads of liquor.

hmmm holes=crash

So I was supposed to get my hair cut on Thursday night. Tammy didn't feel well so I made my appointment for another day. Dan was going to an opening with my dad of our doctors new office so I ran up to the mall. My dad dropped Dan off there and we stayed until like 7:30. Well we were walking through the parking lot when BAM!

See above ditches? I ate it in it. It was soo dark from Macy's until really Jcpenny's I didn't see a trench in the ground and busted ass. I was super embarrassed and Dan was just trying to get me up so I didn't get run over by a car.
I didn't go in and say what happened cause I just wanted to go home. My ankle got really swollen so I decided to go fill ot a report at the mall on Friday ( when I called the lady at security yelled at me because I didn't fill it out the night before). Dan took them to the spot which the mall stated was clearly marked..hmm 12-15 ft. trench in a dark parking lot was so clearly marked that I fell in it right? Don't you all see how well marked it is? The also said the lights were on timers so it may be dark in the parking lot. Put the lights on timers at 9:30 when the mall is closed...Anyway they wouldn't give me a copy of the incident report and the mall office just said to tell the Dr. that the mall insurance company would pay for it.

I called Dan's worker's comp attorney cause at this point I was fuming ( and my ankle still hurt) and asked wat I should do. We went to 2 different Dr. offices and no one would see me without payment and the stupid secretary at the mall was like" you pay and then we decide to pay.." hmmm no way in hell. So we wound up in the ER. While waiting my mom e-mailed Dan the number of Westfields Corporate Office and I spoke to lady that apologized a ton and she said she would take care of it. In the ER got a bunch of xrays taken, nothing was broken but a really bad sprain. I took a vicodin and was super spaced out. The put me in a half cast for a couple of days to keep my ankle from moving and gave me crutches. The vicodin left me loopy and I remember almost eating it with the crutches so I got wheeled away...

* thank goodness I shaved before going to the hospital..lol

Moral of the story, park downstairs at the Westfield Countryside Mall and fill out an incident report if you fall becuase it is worth hurt pride to not be hurt...

Jumbo Crayons

One project I did this weekend was make JUMBO crayons with Dan. As you can see with the previous post I have a HUGE amount of stuff to accomplish and we decided to add something else to list. They came out great. I think it took between 11 and 12 grayons for the snowmen chunky ones and 9 and 10 for the Christmas tree ones.

Crayons peeled and in the silicone molds...We baked them at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes. I forgot to put tham on a baking tray soooo

we chilled them int he freezer and had 6 Colorful Christmas Trees

And 6 colorful snowmen. These made JUMBO crayons.

HHB total success in my book!

HHB was held yesterday and I wanted to thank all of the vendors that came to the show. I know it wasn't a huge monetary success for everyone but I think overall the show was great. We had a fantastic location, BEAUTIFUL weather, and traffic all day. We did close up shop little earlier than we advertised because we forgot about the time change and even with closing early we were helping people pack in the dark. While we were finishing up my stuff was on the lawn and the sprinklers went (reclaimed water nonetheless)on super quick. Dan with his fast thinking covered on of the heads and Stacey, Doug and I moved most of the stuff before it got soaked.

I will post pictures of the show later. This is my little Oscars thank you for the production of HHB 2008 I wanted to thank Karrie of Fiberologie for allowing us to have the show and open up on her day off for us ( and for her staff for coming in too), Mike of Nova for allowing us the use of his space, Limeys for being fantastic to deal with, before, during and after the show. Mark, Mike, Jessi and Jodi really helped us out and everyone appreciated the discount. All of the places we had that published about the show Creative Loafing, Skirt, St. Pete Times, and TBT. My folks and sister for coming and helping us during the day. Doug ( Stacey's husband) who helped multiple people unload, set-up and strip down and was as super good sport. Dan (my husband) for being there all day and watching the booth while I was chatting away, I know it was his IDEAL Sunday. He also helped Doug with setting up and stripping down vendors spaces. Lastly Stacey my partner in crime for this event. I would have never been able to do this without her. She is uber organized and always thought of things I didn't. I know planning this was not easy for her with her family, work and etsy life but we did it. Pluse she made me an AWESOME apron.. I am so glad we decided to take a chance. We wanted to do a show we were proud of, Mission Accomplished.

Loads of things to do

I have been kinda busy...I have been tutoring at night and not getting home until like 7:30ish. Dan has been on overnights for the past week and a half so I see him for about an hour to an hour and a half each day real quick. I haven't got all of the stuff I wanted to get accomplished to sell for this weekend's show but I did get my FEST secret Swap done. I totally had forgotten about it and everything needed to be sent out by the 15th...

It is about bar towel size. When I made some stuff for Stacey she cut down some of my ginormous tea towels so I made the birds on that. the swap was for winter or fall themed items but I couldn't really think of what either of those meant besides holidays ( we do live in florida so it is a bit harder). I went with these birds from a pattern from annie oakleaves and made them in fall like colors. I hope she likes it.
